Abstract

This collection includes business and personal papers of W. Graham Claytor, a 1906 graduate of Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College (later Virginia Polytechnic Institute) and an executive overseeing the operations of a number of American Gas and Electric Company subsidiaries during the 20th century. It includes correspondence, reports, and printed materials relating to personal financial matters, business operations, Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and ham radio.

The collection contains papers of Chapman J. French, civil engineer employed by Norfolk & Western Railway from 1903 to 1950. It includes correspondence, memoranda, working notes, and specifications for projects as well as company and engineering department procedures. Also includes personal papers, largely relating to purchases for household and farm.

Roy Jay Holden, Jr. (1921-1989) was an authority on the handling of hazardous materials, working for the American Car and Foundry Industries (1947-1970) and the Bureau of Explosives of the Association of American Railroads (1980-1989). The collection documents his career in railroad tank car design and the handling of hazardous materials.

Abstract This collection consists primarily of correspondence written by Robert Hord, Jr., of Richmond, Virginia, to his parents, Gladys and Robert Hord, Sr. It also includes a scrapbook and photographs of the Hord family.Robert Hord, Jr., was born in 1920; he attended the Virginia Polytechnic Institute's Engineering Extension school in Richmond from 1937 to 1939.
